FAMU Spring Preview Event Packs Gaither Gym

More than 3,000 high school juniors, seniors and community college transfers and their chaperones filled Jake Gaither Gymnasium for Spring Preview Saturday, March  25.

The event was held about six weeks before the University’s May 1 fall semester application deadline. During the session Student Government Association President Zachary C. Bell and other student leaders, and President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., and other administrators addressed the gathering.

Robinson shared the University’s accolades as the highest ranked public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) for the fourth consecutive year, ranked 103 among national public universities and No. 23 in the social mobility index, according to U.S. News & World Report. The University is also pushing for Carnegie Research 1 status as faculty has garnered record-breaking research funding and expenditure. FAMU graduates young men and women who make a difference in their communities where they live and work, Robinson said.

“The world would not be right without FAMU in it,” Robinson told the gathering as he listed several prominent alumni. “We care about the young men and women who cross the threshold to attend FAMU. You will not make a bad decision to choose Florida A&M University.”

More than 22,000 first time-in-college students have applied to attend FAMU for the 2023-2024 school year.

During the event, representatives from FAMU’s more than a dozen colleges and schools were on hand to discuss academic and financial aid opportunities for fall 2023 semester. The FAMU Marching “100” performed several tunes on the stage to enliven the event.

Attendees to Spring Preview then toured the school or college of their interest and participated in workshops. Following Spring Preview, many attending the annual Be Out Day event sponsored by the Student Government Association.
