“The Florida Blue Florida Classic is much more than a football game. Since 1997, 25 years ago, Orlando became home to the Classic. In that light, this weekend is historic and promises to be one of the best ever,” said FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D. “From the ‘Battle of the Bands,’ to the battle on the gridiron, the Classic weekend is always exciting. Additionally, this weekend provides a tremendous economic boost to the Central Florida area, which filters into the surrounding areas.”

The Classic events will be punctuated by the FAMU College of Law in Orlando 20th anniversary celebratory activities. Among several events to mark the 20th anniversary is the annual State of the College of Law Address on Tuesday, November 15, at 10 a.m. The event will take place at 201 FAMU Law Lane in Orlando.

College of Law Dean Deidré Keller said the purpose is to update the community about significant accomplishments, major financial contributions, and to glance at the future of the law school. On Wednesday, Robinson will attend the Economic Justice for All Reception at 6 p.m., at the law school, and at 7 p.m., there will be a panel discussion and workshop. FAMU will hold recruitment events at St. Petersburg College’s Gibbs campus in St. Petersburg on Wednesday and at Jefferson High School in Tampa on Thursday. The Tampa Bay region is one of the largest recruiting areas for FAMU.

On Friday, the FAMU community and leadership will welcome 1,800 students to the Scholarship and Recruitment Program at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Hotel, Orlando.

“This is a perfect time and place for high school students and parents to learn about scholarship opportunities provided by alumni and generous donors, and the quality education offered in a caring and nurturing environment at FAMU that sits on the ‘highest of seven hills,’” Robinson said. “We invite you tocome and meet our academic deans, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.”

Other signature events include the Battle of the Bands at 7 p.m., on Friday at the Amway Arena. The Florida Blue Florida Classic begins at 2:30 p.m., at the Florida Citrus Bowl Camping World Arena.
