Office of Animal Welfare and Research Integrity

The Office of Animal Welfare and Research Integrity (OAWRI) at Florida A&M University responsibility is to protect the research community through ethical and safe guidelines so that the University is compliant with federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as University policies. The University's pursuit of quality research activities by assisting the campus community in conducting their activities in a compliant and responsible manner. The Office is responsible for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Hazardous Chemicals (BioRaft). The Oversight for Conflict of Interest and Misconduct In Research issues are also managed by the office.

The essential functions of the OAWRI are to manage and administer a program of laboratory animal care the complies with the federal Animal Welfare Act, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) and USDA; and to manage and administer a program of human subject research that complies with the Office of Human Research Protections and National Institutes of Health. The office works in conjunction with the Environmental Health and Safety Office to ensure compliance with hazardous chemicals for research involving Florida A&M University.
