Bachelor of Architecture

Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.)
The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program leads to a professional degree accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)--the educational credentials needed for licensure as a registered, practicing architect.
The primary mission of the B.Arch program is to prepare students for the practice of architecture. The School fulfills this mission through an urban design studio, a comprehensive building design studio and various lecture courses. B.Arch students use the School and faculty as rich resources in the development of their professional interests.

Application and Admission Requirements

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the School of Architecture and Engineering Technology (SAET) receives the completed application materials by the university’s deadline. While applications submitted after February 1 are still accepted, they are not guaranteed priority consideration for placement or financial aid. Admission is competitive and considered on a space-available basis. Admission decision letters are typically issued by the end of February, and applicants are notified of one of the following outcomes: admission, waitlist, or denial.

The FAMU Office of Undergraduate Admissions (https://admissions.famu.edu/) manages the application process. The application is online. The “Returning Users” application form is for students who are or were FAMU students. The “First-Time Users” application form is for students that never attended FAMU. Applicants must meet the requirements of the university as well as those of the SAET. The university requirements include the following:

  1. A completed university application.
  2. An official up-to-date TRANSCRIPT of undergraduate records sent directly from all previous colleges attended.
  3. A 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average, covering the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate work.

Since architecture is a “Limited Access Program,” the FAMU SAET requirements include the following:

  1. A FAMU Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies or a 4-year architecture degree from an architecture program in Florida’s State University System (SUS).
  2. A satisfactory score on the portfolio review. The samples of work will not be returned.
  3. A résumé indicating the applicant’s educational and career background,
  4. A statement of intent indicating the applicant’s educational and career goals and reasons for selecting the degree program at FAMU.

Evaluation of Non-Accredited Architecture Degree and Transfer Credits

The evaluation of a non-accredited architecture degree is a structured process that carefully examines an applicant’s prior education to determine how it compares to the content, rigor, and outcomes expected in the FAMU SAET Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (BSAS). This process is not designed to confer retroactive accreditation or blanket equivalency. Instead, it focuses on assessing how much of the applicant’s previous academic and design experience aligns with the SAET program. This applies to transfers into the four-year Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies, the professional Bachelor of Architecture, or the Master of Architecture. Additional details are available online (https://saet.famu.edu/about/degreeevaluation.php)

Estimated Program Cost

The estimated program cost is a combination of two calculations: the Cost of Attendance and Specialized Program Costs. Additional details are available online (https://saet.famu.edu/about/estimatedprogramcost.php).
