About Me

George Epolito is an Associate Professor of Architecture and Director of Graduate Architecture Programs at FAMU. With more than 30 years of international academic experience in North America and the UK, he has taught across all levels of architectural design studios, as well as courses in architectural history, theory, and urbanism.
His research explores the intersection of politics and cultural production through themes such as everyday architecture, alternative spatial practices, social and spatial marginalization, Italian Modernism, Latin American Tropical Modernism, and avant-garde approaches to historic structures. His work also addresses architectural pedagogy and the role of design education in fostering spatial justice.
An active contributor to the global architectural community, George has regularly published, lectured at conferences and symposia, and led student workshops internationally. His scholarly contributions include publications and presentations on African American, Puerto Rican, and immigrant Italian cultural production. His research is unified by three core themes: Displacement of Cultural Capital, Otherness, and Coexistence.
Prior to joining FAMU, he held leadership roles in UK architecture schools, including as Director of the MArch, MA in Architecture Futures, MA in Urban Design, and Degree Apprenticeship programs at the Leeds School of Architecture and as Director of the MArch at the Leicester School of Architecture. He also led Clemson University’s Study Abroad Program in Genoa, Italy.
