Joining a Fraternity or Sorority
Joining a fraternity or sorority at FAMU involves a mutual selection process. Different organizations have different ways to get to know interested students and allow them to learn about the group. The process varies depending on the type of organization, which is grouped by the governing council that oversees them.
While each chapter may have extra requirements to join, here are the basic university requirements:
- Be a full-time FAMU student
- Complete the Verification of Aspirants form
- Maintain good standing with the university
- Attending a Greek Assembly Session (GAS)
- Finishing all assigned eligibility courses by the due date
- Complete at least 25 hours of community service the semester prior to intake
- Have atleast a 2.5 cumulative GPA (some may require higher)
- Have at least 15 FAMU credits (for non-transfer students) or 12 FAMU credits (for transfer students) and be classified as a sophomore or above
New member processes happen in the spring semester, with exceptions for newly charted, re-activated, and re-charted organizations in the fall or spring. No new member processes are allowed in the summer or when the university is closed.
Academic eligibility is determined based on the student's academic standing and/or the organization's requirement. This applies to all students, including transfers and freshmen. Academic eligibility must be confirmed before extending a membership invitation.
Disclaimer:
The Efferson Student Union and Activities, Fraternity and Sorority Life, nor the university, does not participate in the selection process of any of its fraternities or sororities. Their selection process is considered fair as it is supported by the international/national governing body, policies, and procedures. If you have any questions or concerns regarding selection, please direct them to the chapter advisor and/or the regional leadership of the organization.
