Investigations Unit

Welcome to the Florida A&M University Department of Campus Safety & Security Criminal Investigations Unit.

The Criminal Investigations Unit is tasked with following leads developed during the initial reporting of criminal activity to the University Police Department. The Criminal Investigations Unit is ready to respond anytime, day or night, to the needs of crime victims, or to the scene of any criminal activity including, but not limited to, Burglary, Theft, Assaults, etc.

The members of the Criminal Investigations Unit first work to follow-up on reports of criminal activity initially reported to our uniformed patrol officers. The Investigators then establish that a criminal act was indeed committed, identify and apprehend the person responsible for the criminal act, and attempt to recover any property that may have been stolen. The Investigations Unit is also responsible for the forensic examination of crime scenes along with the evaluation, collection, and maintenance of evidence. The Investigations Unit plays an integral part in assisting the State of Florida in prosecuting the suspect charged with the offense. At the Florida A&M University Department of Campus Safety & Security, Investigators may also utilize the services of the Office of Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution in lieu of proceeding with criminal charges.

Investigative personnel receive specialized education and training in Sexual Assault and Battery, Narcotics Investigation and Identification, Interview and Interrogation Techniques, Crime Scene Processing, Financial Fraud Investigation, and many other investigative disciplines.  The FAMU-DCSS Investigations staff works in cooperation with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

If you wish to contact the Investigation Unit, please contact Lt. Audrey Alexander, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. (except on university or national holidays) at 850-599-3553 or email audrey.alexander@famu.edu.
