Chemistry, Minor

Chemistry, Minor
The chemistry minor consists of twenty credit hours of chemistry courses. A grade of C or better is required in all courses. All students with a chemistry minor will benefit from expanding their analytical and critical-thinking skills as well as their knowledge of the natural sciences.

Students should meet with their advisor to discuss the minor. Then complete the Minor Declaration Form with the assistance of their advisor and the chemistry department chair. When all signatures are obtained, the completed form should be sent to the registrar. This will add the chemistry minor to the student's transcript.

Why Minor in Chemistry?

  • The minor in chemistry fits very well with majors that require knowledge of the natural sciences. Business majors who plan to have careers in sales or marketing can benefit from having the science knowledge to go along with the business skills to sell or market drugs or pharmaceuticals.
  • Agriculture majors with a chemistry minor will benefit from understanding the chemistry behind soil treatment to address pests and animal care.
  • Majors with an environmental focus can use a chemistry minor to deepen their application of chemical principles to studies of natural resources like rivers and lakes to make them safer ecosystems.

Chemistry graduates have a wide range of career options in various fields, such as research, healthcare, education, and industry.
