About the Electoral Commission

The Florida A&M University Electoral Commission (EC) serves as the administrative and governing body responsible for the oversight, integrity, and execution of student body elections. The Commission ensures that all elections are conducted in accordance with the Election Code (Chapter 600), university policies, and the principles of fairness, transparency, and student participation.

Through education, engagement, and procedural oversight, the Electoral Commission works to safeguard the democratic process within the FAMU student body. The Commission coordinates election schedules, candidate declarations, campaign oversight, voting administration, and results certification while promoting voter awareness and civic responsibility among students.

In addition to administering Student Government elections, the Commission may also support recognized student organizations and campus groups in conducting internal elections, reinforcing best practices in student governance and leadership development.

By fostering accountability and participation, the Electoral Commission helps ensure that students' voices are represented in a fair and credible electoral process.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Electoral Commission is to be recognized as a trusted steward of student democracy at Florida A&M University by fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and active participation in the student electoral process.

Core Values

The Core Values of the Electoral Commission operates in alignment with the values of Florida A&M University and the Student Government Association while emphasizing the following guiding principles:

Integrity: We uphold the highest standards of fairness, ethical conduct, and impartiality in administering the student electoral process.

Transparency: We ensure that all election procedures, decisions, and outcomes are conducted openly and communicated clearly to the student body.

Accountability: We maintain responsible stewardship of election policies and procedures while holding candidates, campaigns, and the Commission itself accountable to established rules and standards.

Student Empowerment: We promote civic engagement and encourage students to participate actively in the democratic process through voting, leadership, and informed decision-making.

Access: We strive to ensure that all eligible students have fair and open access to participate in elections as voters, candidates, or volunteers.

Service: We serve the student body by safeguarding the credibility of the electoral process and strengthening trust in student governance.

Student Elected Positions

Each year, Florida A&M University students have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process by voting for and electing student leaders who represent the voice and interests of the student body. Through the student election process, students may run for a variety of leadership positions that support student advocacy, campus engagement, and university traditions.

The Electoral Commission administers all elections in accordance with the Election Code (Chapter 600) to ensure a fair, transparent, and organized election process for all candidates and voters.

It is important to note that not all elected positions are available during every election cycle. FAMU typically hosts two election periods each academic year — Fall Elections and Spring Elections — and different positions are contested during each term.

Visit the FAMU-SGA website and follow the @FAMUELECTIONS / @FAMU_SGA87  for more information.

Events & Programs

The Electoral Commission hosts a variety of programs, workshops, and information sessions throughout the academic year to educate students about the election process and encourage active participation in student leadership and civic engagement.

These programs are designed to help students understand how elections work at FAMU, within the state of Florida, and nationally, while also providing guidance for students interested in running for office or participating in the democratic process.

The Electoral Commission also supports the broader campus community by offering educational sessions for registered student organizations and clubs seeking assistance with developing or improving their internal election procedures. visit us on Instagram @FAMUELECTIONS and our iStrike events page to stay up to date on our events.
