About Me

Bryan Buie is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Architecture + Engineering Technology (SAET). He earned his Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since graduating from RISD, Buie has taught design studios at FAMU, Florida International University, Texas Tech University, and the University of the Southwest. Buie integrates sculpture and architecture to develop public spaces. His research is on sculptural work and how it creates and adds to the character of public space.

Buie was raised working in a welding and machine shop in New Mexico. Here he learned the importance of working with the hands to reach an intuitive understanding of material. As a result, his pedagogy emerges from a hand-making philosophy, where students focus entirely on personal experience and building one's own perceptions. He plays a formative role in the beginning education of architecture students at FAMU.
