Sampson & Young Reigns Supreme at 2022 FAMU Homecoming Housing Step Show
Final Standings: VGS 3rd, TNT 2nd, INSYNC 1st

Last Monday, the annual Homecoming Housing Step Show returned to the Jake Gaither Gymnasium for another year. This year’s theme was Disney Villains. The show featured several performances by housing step teams, the Omega Lamplighters, concessions by RHA, and FAMU student performers. Sydney Aitcheson, Breyonna Bryant, Demi Howard, and Ronnie Burns hosted the show, and music was provided by DJ Loosekid.

Five teams competed in the step show this year. IMPACT represented Palmetto. V NASTY and Village Girls Stepping (VGS) performed for Polkinghorne Village. TNT performed for FAMU Towers, and INSYNC represented both Sampson and Young Hall.

The show opened with all the housing step teams individually dancing out from the back of the gym to introduce themselves. Next, the audience saw musical performances from FAMU students like  Izzy Joven and Keanu Capers

IMPACT took the stage first. Characters like Cruella de Vil (from 101 Dalmatian) and Ursula (from The Little Mermaid) could be seen in orange prison jumpsuits during this performance.

V Nasty performed next. The plot of their performance was centered around Peter Pan and Neverland. TNT and VGS also had Disney-themed performances. TNT focused on Simba’s life with The Lion King. VGS focused on Ariel losing her voice with The Little Mermaid.

INSYNC was the last team to perform. Their routine was centered around The Princess and the Frog. Their choreography featured characters like Princess Tiana, Mama Odie, and Dr. Facilier.

After a short deliberation, while the judges tallied the teams’ scores, the MCs announced VGS placed third place, and TNT placed second. INSYNC won first place, winning the 2022 FAMU Homecoming Housing Step Show.

Congratulations to all the teams and the step show committee for throwing a great event. Thank you Summer Pack-It for providing prize offers for the placing teams.
