About Me

Doug Blackburn became a full-time associate professor in the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication in January 2015 after spending more than three decades working as a writer or editor at different newspapers and magazines. From 2006 to 2015 he was a senior writer at theTallahassee Democrat where he covered higher education, including FAMU. He also began working as an adjunct at SJGC starting in 2009. He likes to say that he brings the newsroom into the classroom when teaching upper-level news writing and reporting courses.

"We are at a pivotal time in our nation's history as far as journalism is concerned. The media is under attack, and it's important that our students learn the importance of being fair and accurate with each and every story they tell." - Douglas S. Blackburn
