Gail Richmond is a Visiting Instructor at FAMU during the 2025–2026 academic year. She previously taught at FAMU in fall 2019 and in 2021–2023. She received an A.B. and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Duke University. Before attending law school, she was an accountant in the tax department of Arthur Andersen in Chicago. After law school, she practiced law with Jones, Day in Cleveland. She has taught as a regular faculty member, visitor, or adjunct at Capital University, Duke University, Stetson University, University of Miami, University of North Carolina, University of Texas, and Nova Southeastern University and has guest lectured on at several other schools. She spent most of her teaching career at Nova Southeastern, where she served 28 years as associate dean and two years as acting dean, and is now Professor Emerita. Her teaching interests are taxation and donative transfers.
She co-authored Federal Tax Research: Guide to Materials and Techniques; Florida Wills, Trusts, and Estates; Mastering Corporate Tax; Mastering Income Tax; and Mastering Trusts and Estates. She has written articles on federal tax, tax research, law school administration, and popular culture topics and presented at conferences on tax, law school administration, and the law school inspection process.
She served as Supervising Editor of the ABA Tax Section’s NewsQuarterly in 2006–2015, served two terms on the Section’s Nominating Committee, and chaired its Individual Income Tax Committee and its Individual AMT Task Force. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools, Inc., including service as President and Secretary, and is currently a member of its Program Formatting Committee; the SEALS Lifetime Service Award is named in her honor. She has been a member of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar’s Questionnaire Committee and chair of its Adjunct Faculty Committee, a member of the Association of American Law Schools’ Membership Review Committee, a member of the Law School Admission Council’s Board of Trustees, and Chair of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Tax Council. She has served on numerous law school site visits teams for the ABA and AALS.
