About Me


Areto Imoukhuede is a Professor of Law at FAMU College of Law. He earned his J.D. at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was awarded the Dean’s Certificate for Outstanding Service. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Northwestern University where he was awarded the Golden Bear Award for Financial Acumen.

Professor Imoukhuede mainly researches U.S. constitutional law issues, focusing on education law and homeland security. He has presented his research across the nation and overseas, including in Greece and Italy.

In addition to U.S. Constitutional Law and advanced courses on constitutional theory, he teaches administrative law and education law. Professor Imoukhuede has extended his teaching mission internationally, teaching courses on International Justice and the Human Right to Education in Spain, Italy, and at the Hague in the Netherlands.

He is one of the founders of the John Mercer Langston Black Male Writing Workshop. He has also served the academy as a site inspector for the ABA law school accreditation process. Professor Imoukhuede was chair of his past institution’s retention, promotion and tenure committee and has taken on that role at FAMU. He has also notably served on strategic planning, ABA Self-Study, and program review committees.

His federal service includes work as Investigative Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security. He interned with the U.S. DOJ Antitrust Division and was a Congressional Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he conducted extensive research on U.S. education policy.
