Computational/Data-enabled S&E. UHD: created NASAHouston AI Program, students built CAVE2-teaching astronauts space flight; US ARO $10M funded him and colleagues from FAMU, Grambling State, University of Central Florida to create Advanced Distributed Simulation Research Consortium to assist automating Army’s semi-automatic ground environment. Carnegie-Mellon: team member developing: DA MathSci, BS Computer Science, parallel processing for photo recognition; graduated four DA, four PhD students. Research: CDS&E, AI’s Impact on Humanity, big data applications: cancer, public health, cybersecurity; provided $5M Hewlett grant for Cyber Policy Institute. Partners: UC Berkeley/San Diego’s CalIT2’s NSF grants building the National Research Platform enhanced FAMU’s Cyberinfrastructure with 32 GPUs [8 in place], DMZ, direct connectivity to the NRP [free access to shared resources [1300+ GPUs, 100+ AI modules, 5000+ data sets, cloud/exascale computing]; resources building Cybersecurity/ Visualizations Research/ Learning Lab; Raised $15+M in grants. Outreach: NSF S&T Center in Parallel Computation at Rice; Purdue’s Center for Visual Analytics for Command, Control, and Interoperability. Chaired: Art Acquisition Committee, commissioning over $15M. Mentoring: 25 doctorates [first nine PhDs in [Big] Data].
