About Me


Dr. Jerry F. Miller is the Interim Chair and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS). He teaches and conducts research in cybersecurity, networking, and digital forensics. He has been involved in higher education for 15 years.
Before joining FAMU, Dr. Miller served as Associate Director at FIU’s Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences, and previously at the Applied Research Center (ARC). While at ARC, he served as a Principal Investigator for three research programs, directing over $4 million in research on renewable energy, global/human security, and cybersecurity.
A retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, Colonel Miller served as an Air Force rescue and special operations helicopter pilot in the MH-60G, Programming, Plans & Budgeting System Officer, and USAF Latin American Foreign Area Officer. He served as the Chief of the Office of Defense Cooperation and Senior Defense Representative at the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Dr. Miller is the principal author of the book, Mentoring Beyond AI: Forging Pioneers for the Dawning Era of Artificial Intelligence, the Metaverse, and Space, and co-author of several conference articles and book chapters on computer networking and security, as well as constructed wetlands and renewable energy systems.
Dr. Miller holds a certificate as a Spanish linguist from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, Presidio of Monterey, Monterey, California. He also holds a certificate in Emergency Management as an On-Scene Commander and served as the Commander of Air Force Forces and Fire Marshall at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, where he handled several emergencies, including a dangerous chlorine spill, a hurricane disaster, and a hydroelectric generator fire in El Cajón dam.
