About Me

Caroline Odewumi is a professor of biology in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL, and has been teaching for the past thirty-two years. She received her Ph.D. in Molecular Environmental Toxicology with a focus on metal toxicity. Her specific research focus areas are in the Investigation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the toxicification of environmental pollutants such as heavy metals in mammalian systems, and the Identification of natural compounds for the amelioration of cadmium toxicity in mammalian cells. Dr. Odewumi has authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Environmental Toxicology, Annals of Toxicology, Toxicology In vitro, Science of the Total Environment, International Journal of Molecular Medicine, etc. This shows her to be an active investigator with a productive laboratory. Not only this, she has served and is still serving as a reviewer and editorial member of journals such as: Toxicological & Environmental Chemistry – Reviewer, the Scientific Pages of Toxicology Journal– Editorial Board Member, SRL Biology by SCIRES Literature. – Editorial Board Member, Journal of Peer Scientist– Editorial Board Member. In addition to serving as a science poster judge for graduate and undergraduate students for the past twenty years. Over the course of her career, she has trained and mentored several students pursuing Ph.D., Master’s, and undergraduate students directly and/or indirectly, preparing them academically, intellectually, and professionally to become critical thinkers. Lastly, she is the faculty advisor for the National Society for Collegiate Scholarship (NSCS) and the Health and Education Relief Organization (HERO) FAMU chapter.
