Carlos Theran is a data science professor with over a decade of experience in designing
and implementing machine learning and deep learning solutions to address a wide range
of societal challenges. His research bridges the fields of applied mathematics, computer
science, data science, and big data infrastructure. His work has tackled problems
in image analysis, the healthcare sector, agriculture, and sentiment analysis. A key
focus of his research involves designing deep learning architectures that leverage
data fusion techniques for high-dimensional imagery applications, particularly in
the contexts of remote sensing and medical diagnostics.

Image Analysis and Computer Vision
Development of algorithms for feature extraction, segmentation, and classification
across diverse imaging modalities.
-
Remote Sensing and Geospatial Data Science
Application of machine learning for land-cover classification, environmental monitoring,
and change detection using multispectral and hyperspectral imagery.
-
Neurodegenerative Disease Analysis
Implementation of deep learning models to identify biomarkers and patterns in neuroimaging
data related to disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
-
Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Design of AI-driven models for text understanding, sentiment analysis, and information
extraction in scientific and policy domains.
-
