Carlos L. Bates, a native of Wildwood, FL, was commissioned into the Adjutant General
Branch from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 2009. His civilian education
includes a bachelor's degree in Political Science with a minor in military studies.
MAJ Bates served in the 307th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Airborne), 27th Engineer
Battalion (Combat) (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the following positions:
Platoon Leader, Company XO, and Battalion Adjutant. MAJ Bates deployed to Afghanistan
as an Executive Officer with 307th Engineer Battalion. MAJ Bates attended the Adjutant
General Captain's Career Course in 2015. MAJ Bates post AGCCC served at Fort Campbell,
Kentucky as a Battalion Adjutant for Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade.
MAJ Bates then worked at Human Resources Command as a team chief for Enlisted Personnel
Management Division (EPMD). MAJ Bates took over as an account manager for Officer
Personnel Management Division (OPMD) While serving at Human Resources Command MAJ
Bates was selected for promotion with merit to the rank of Major and selected for
Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base. Upon completion of Air Command
and General Staff College MAJ Bates was assigned to Florida Agriculture and Mechanical
University as the Assistant Professor of Military Science.
MAJ Bates’ military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (Four Oak Leaf Cluster), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Medal, and Basic Airborne Badge
