Bio

Dr. Willie L. Williams is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Health Science within the School of Allied Health Sciences at Florida A&M University (FAMU). He holds a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from FAMU.

Dr. Williams brings an interdisciplinary background in public health and social work, complemented by professional certifications that include USCCA Firearm Instructor, National Rifle Association Range Safety Officer, and CITI Program Human Research certification.

His research examines the intersections of public health, social context, and community safety. Specifically, his research explores the design of youth prevention and intervention programs that promote positive health behaviors among underserved populations; the impact of the built environment and broader social context on health outcomes for minority communities; the barriers and supports that influence minority students’ transition and readiness for careers in the health professions, with particular attention to academic and workforce preparedness; and the role of stigma as a barrier to mental health engagement and care among African American boys and men. In addition, Dr. Williams examines community-based approaches to firearm-related violence and unintentional injury prevention, with an emphasis on culturally responsive, locally driven solutions.
