Florida A&M University’s Data Governance program establishes a university-wide framework for managing institutional data as a strategic asset. Effective data governance supports planning, administration, compliance, protection, and informed decision-making across the University. The policy recognizes that data is essential to FAMU’s operations and strategic goals, and it provides the structure needed to manage data responsibly throughout its lifecycle.
The Executive Data Council is responsible for setting the University’s enterprise data strategy, approving data policies and standards, and resolving cross-functional data issues. It also ensures that all data-related efforts are aligned with institutional priorities and strategic goals.
The Data Quality & Assurance Council is responsible for overseeing data quality and integrity across the institution, as well as reviewing and validating key institutional metrics. It also guides analytical priorities and reporting efforts, while recommending improvements to strengthen overall data governance practices.
The Data Stewardship Council is responsible for maintaining data definitions and standards, ensuring data accuracy at the source, and managing data access and usage protocols. It also supports the implementation of data governance policies across the institution.
