The Office of International Education and Development (OIED) was established in June 2003. Throughout the office’s tenure on campus, it has welcomed over 5,000 international students and scholars and sent thousands of students abroad. The mission of OIED is to support campus internationalization and raise awareness of the value of international education. We serve students, faculty, staff, and the community with the goal of creating leaders who possess the skills necessary to function in a globally interconnected world.
To further our commitment to internationalization, we provide international educational opportunities that enable Rattlers to develop their cross-cultural competencies by becoming knowledgeable of world affairs, developing regional expertise relevant to their specific fields of study, and to become proficient in one or more foreign languages. We work closely with academic departments to move forward the internationalization agenda at FAMU as outlined in the University’s Strategic Priorities.
The Office of International Education and Development contributes to Florida A&M University following Strategic Priorities:
Student success. We will increase student success and improve the overall student experience by enhancing academic support services, strengthening our academic degree programs, enhancing our living-learning environment, and promoting innovative co-curricular activities.
Pathway 3: Enrolling more college-ready and honors students in high-demand degree programs at the undergraduate level. *Through the recruitment of high achieving and academically strong international students.*
Pathway 5: Developing international partnerships and MOUs to create additional opportunities for international students to enroll in our undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs.
OIED collaborates with Colleges and Schools to provide a comprehensive international
education program that will enhance the University's relevance in the international
higher education community. We also encourage faculty, staff, and students to broaden
their global engagement by participating in the programs we offer. The higher education
community has discovered that graduates with cross-cultural understanding, regional
cultural expertise, and language competencies bring unique and beneficial skills to
                  potential employers with international components.
Not only does OIED provide opportunities for students through exchange and third party
partnerships, we have a long-standing affiliation with the U.S. Department of State.
We work closely with the Diplomat-in-Residence, a senior level diplomat who promotes
both foreign and civil services career preparation for jobs with the Department of
State. Working with the Diplomat-in-Residence provides Rattlers who are interested
in larger scale government participation and reform the opportunity to gain firsthand
                  knowledge and experience.
