.Bio


Lauralyn Kavanaugh-Burke, DrPH, RHIA, CHES, CHTS-IM, obtained her B.S. degree in Health Record Administration from York College of Pennsylvania, an M.S. degree in Community Health Education from West Virginia University, and a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) with a concentration in epidemiology from Florida A&M University. Her research focus is hospital preparedness for bioterrorism, infectious diseases, and catastrophic events, and health information infrastructure. She is credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and a Certified Health Information Technology Specialist in Implementation Management (CHTS-IM). Dr. Burke has 41 years of experience in health information/hospital management, consulting, health education program management and as a faculty in health informatics and information management programs. Her areas of teaching include health informatics and information systems, management and leadership, healthcare reimbursement, privacy and security, pathophysiology, and biostatistics. She authors the Medical Science Chapter for the Professional Review Guide for the RHIA and RHIT Examinations and has published articles in the Journal of the American Health Information Management Association, Perspectives in Health Informatics and Information Management, and Educational Perspectives in Health Informatics and Information Management. Dr. Burke is the co-author of the textbook Introductions to Information Systems for Health Information Technology, 4th edition. She is an active member of the Northwest Florida Health Information Management Association, Florida Health Information Management Association, and American Health Information Management Association.
