About the FAMU Cyber Policy Institute (CyPI)

The FAMU Cyber Policy Institute (CyPI) is a pioneering interdisciplinary center dedicated to shaping the future of cyber governance, artificial intelligence, digital ethics, and workforce development. Rooted in the proud legacy of Florida A&M University’s mission as a premier HBCU, the Institute stands at the intersection of technology, policy, human behavior, and social justice ensuring that innovation serves the public good and that diverse voices shape the digital future.

CyPI brings together scholars, students, industry leaders, policymakers, and community partners to examine how emerging technologies impact society, institutions, and everyday life. Through research, teaching, public engagement, and industry collaboration, the Institute prepares ethical leaders who can navigate complex technological landscapes with integrity, cultural awareness, and a commitment to equity.

At the heart of CYPI’s work is a belief that technology must be human-centered, transparent, accountable, and safe. The Institute advances this mission through five core pillars:

Research & Innovation

CyPI produces high-impact research on cyber policy, AI governance, digital privacy, cybersecurity regulation, workforce analytics, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. Faculty and students work collaboratively to generate actionable solutions grounded in evidence and standards.

Education & Workforce Development

The Institute prepares students for 21st-century careers through curriculum development, experiential learning, micro-badges, industry partnerships, and interdisciplinary programs that blend policy, ethics, behavioral science, and technical fluency.

Civil Discourse & Digital Citizenship

In a time of polarization, misinformation, and digital tension, CyPI leads campus-wide initiatives that promote respectful dialogue, conflict resolution, and safe online behavior—supporting both campus culture and democratic engagement.

Industry Partnerships & Applied Learning

The Institute collaborates with public and private sector partners to offer hands-on learning, applied research projects, policy simulations, and workforce-aligned training. Students gain direct exposure to real-world cyber challenges and industry-driven solutions.

Community & Public Impact

CyPI is committed to serving communities through outreach, digital equity initiatives, K–12 engagement, and accessible resources that help the public understand and navigate cyber and AI challenges.

As a national leader among HBCUs, the FAMU Cyber Policy Institute amplifies the voices and talents of students and scholars who have historically been excluded from technological decision-making. CyPI stands as a model of ethical innovation, culturally informed policy development, and human-centered digital transformation.

The Institute does more than study technology it shapes the narrative of who participates in the digital future and how that future is built. Through excellence, collaboration, and a commitment to justice, the FAMU Cyber Policy Institute is training the next generation of cyber policy thinkers, ethical leaders, and innovators for the world.
