FAMU ERM in the Community

Implementation and enhancements to ERM programs are has become a focus of higher education institutions and government agencies over the last few years. As FAMU works to enhance its ERM program it has been active in the ERM community sharing and receiving best practice information and activities.

The FAMU ERM Program has been invited to speak on ERM best practices at national and international conferences.

On June 2, 2022, Deidre Melton, FAMU’s Chief Risk Officer, presented a session titled, “Audit, Compliance and Risk Management: A Collaborative Approach to Managing Enterprise-wide Risks” at the 1st HBCU Risk Management Conference.

FAMU’s Chief Risk Officer and ERM Coordinator regularly network with members of professional organizations within higher education to obtain best practices, identify emerging risk areas in higher education, and increase overall knowledge on ERM.

Association of College & University Auditors

Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA). FAMU meets monthly with ERM program leaders from Oregon State University, University of Montana, and Wayne State University to share ERM best practices, tools, and challenges.

URMIA

University Risk Management & Insurance Association

University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA). The URMIA ERM Roundtable provides a supportive and collaborative environment for chief risk officers as well as others who may not have that title but oversee the ERM program in their higher education organization.

FAMU’s ERM program has become a go to source for organizations looking to implement ERM in their organizations.
