About Me

Dr. Arlesia Mathis is a Professor in the Florida A&M University, Institute of Public Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy & Management from the University of South Florida College of Public Health. She has been teaching for over 18 years. Her prior teaching experience includes both graduate and undergraduate students in the areas of Health Administration, Public Administration, and Public Health.

Prior to coming to the FAMU Institute of Public Health, Dr. Mathis held a faculty position at the University of Michigan-Flint School of Health Professions and Studies where she acted as a Program Director for the undergraduate program in Health Administration. In addition to her academic experience, she has over ten years of state government experience in the areas of public health, health administration, and insurance. She received numerous awards and recognitions in her career including the Superior Accomplishment Award, Outstanding Service Award, and the Davis Productivity Award. She is a member of Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health and was named COPPS Teacher of the Year in Public Health in 2017.

Dr. Mathis holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Microbiology and Psychology from the Louisiana State University and a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of West Florida. She is Certified in Public Health and also a Certified Public Manager.
