The Music Industry major within the Bachelor of Science in Music degree is designed to acquaint students to the concepts and methodologies of the music and entertainment industry. Throughout the course of study students receive instruction in multiple areas including: copyright, publishing, distribution, retailing of sheet music, music management, production (music technology), merchandising, and sales of recorded music in all forms.
The minor in Music Industry is designed for students who wish to have a background in various aspects of the music and entertainment industry that are pursuing academic studies outside of music and music industry. Students must complete 18 credit hours in music/music industry to fulfill minor requirements.
Students entering into the major area of study are musicians who have an expressed interest in pursuing careers in the music and entertainment industry.
The term music industry connotes the comprehensive set of business areas and specific enterprises associated with the development, promotion, and sale of services and products in music and entertainment including management and specialized services in the various music and entertainment industries.
