Social Work as a Minor
Many departments at Florida A&M University require that their students declare a minor specialization and complete 18 credit hours in the relevant academic program. The BSW Program curriculum provides interested students an opportunity to fulfill their minor specialization requirements by taking three (3) required core social work courses and three (3) social work special area courses.
Students majoring in other programs have found that the social work curriculum helps them gain a better understanding of the field of social work, its ethical and philosophical underpinnings and the professional social workers who will often serve along side them as members of interdisciplinary teams in the workplace. The core courses provide insight on the foundational knowledge base that is taught to all graduates of Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work programs. Whereas, the variety of social work elective courses offered enhance the students skill base in their chosen professional fields. The Social Work minor course offerings are taught throughout the year and are part of the existing BSW curriculum.
