Her spirit and influence continues to shine throughout our curriculumn, faculty, students, and alumni. Drum roll please.....
The Department of Social Work has a BSW and MSW program, both fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The BSW program began in 1974 (under Dr. Victoria Warner) provides generalist practice grounded in liberal arts and person in the environment perspective. Our BSW program prepares students for professional employment in a variety of public and private settings across a multitude of fields of practice. The focus of our MSW program is community based practice and social service administration. The MSW program educates students for knowledgeable, ethical, and culturally compotent leadership as macro social work practitioners.
We have a diverse faculty with expertise in child welfare, gerontology, criminal justice, substance abuse, community-based practice, social welfare policy, and research. Our faculty are committed professionals with a wealth of practice and academic experience within their fields of specialization. They are dedicated to advancing knowledge through critical thought and inquiry and transfers this knowledge onto students in a supportive learning-centered environment. We are proud of our alumni who have made meaningful contributions to the profession in the State of Folrida and throughout the world. We are equally proud of our current students and the organizations that they represent including, the Student Social Work Association (SSWA), Social Work Association of Graduate Students (SWAGS), and PHI Alpha Honor Society. The Department of Social Work education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is commited to empowering, advocating, and supporting the interests of individuals at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels of practice.
