Message From the ChairWelcome to the Department of Social Work. It is an honor to serve as Chair of a Department that has as its founder Dr. Victoria Warner. Dr. Warner was an impassioned soul dedicated to community-based practice and the alleviation of problems impacting all, but especially those marginalized by social inequities and unresponsive social policies. Her spirit and influence is enmeshed throughout our curriculum and in the interests of our faculty, students, and alumni.
We have a diverse faculty with specializations and expertise in a variety of fields of practice across the BSW and MSW programs. Whether your interest with social work practice is in child welfare, gerontology, criminal justice, substance abuse, community-based practice, or social policy and research (among other fields), you will find our degree programs responsive, challenging, and rewarding. Both our BSW and MSW programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Our BSW program has an advanced generalist perspective and prepares professionals for employment in a variety of public and private settings across a multitude of fields practice. Our MSW Program is a specialist program that focuses on community-based practice and social service administration.
Our faculty members are committed professionals with a wealth of practice and academic experience within their fields of specialization. All are dedicated social workers and professionals interested in advancing knowledge through critical thought and inquiry and passing this knowledge onto students within a supportive learning environment. We are proud of our alumni who have made meaningful contributions to the profession and the individuals, families, groups, and communities they serve at the local, state, and national level. We are equally proud of our current students and the organizations that represent them, including the Student Social Work Association (SSWA) and Social Work Association of Graduate Students (SWAGS). Our students and student organizations are very active in the local community, championing causes in the interests of others, and representing the Department and profession well. Welcome!
Robin Perry, Ph.D. Associate Professor and Chair
