Wellness Center

Health Education and Prevention Speakers The SHS Health Educator is available to speak to student groups, residence halls and classes on health and wellness topics.  The SHS Wellness Center has brochures available on numerous health topics and has a condom distribution program.  Call 850-599-3777 for more information.  If you are requesting a program or materials please schedule well in advance of the requested date for the event.

Peer Educators Program
Peer educators are students trained in health prevention and intervention programs.  SAHSA (Students Against the Spread of HIV and AIDS) is and HIV and Hepatitis student peer education program.  Participating students are trained in health promotion and outreach to help educate FAMU students to reduce their risk of HIV infection, substance abuse and exposure to Hepatitis B.  Peer educators are available for classroom or residence hall presentation and to meet with student organizations.  This grant funded program is supported by the Office of Student Counseling and Student Health Services.

Diabetes Education Class
In collaboration with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Diabetes Center, a Diabetes Education Class is offered free to students and staff with this chronic disease.  You can meet with a certified diabetes educator and a dietician to learn more about how to manage your disease.  The class meets every 3rd Thursday in the health center conference room.  Please call 850-599-3777 to register.

Life Coaching Life coaching helps individual students live their lives to the fullest by introducing new perspectives to realize hidden potential. Life coaches offer tools to identify limiting beliefs that sabotage growth. Coaching naturally creates an arena to build new expanding, constructive beliefs. Life coaching helps individuals identify strengths and weaknesses and provides strategies for personal development based on their studens strengths. Life coahing will help students identify good habits, which helps move their lives forward, and bad habits which hold them back. Moreover, it's the coach's responsibility to provide the necessary guidance and support to facilitate thier client's objectives.
