Dear Prospective Student:
Thank you for your interest in pursuing your college studies in the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Science and Technology. My administration, faculty and staff are committed to rigorously educating tomorrow’s scientific, healthcare and technology leaders. As a student in the College of Science and Technology, you will be exposed to a broad variety of learning experiences in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.
You and your peers will soon be called upon to provide solutions to a new generation of scientific and technological problems that will be necessary to help our nation maintain its competitive edge on the world stage. As your Dean, one of my top priorities will be to provide you with an academic learning environment and support system that will facilitate your development as a future leader in your chosen field of study. To that end, the College of Science and Technology provides many services that are designed to ensure that your FAMU experience is truly unique and exceptional.
In the College of Science and Technology we have several programs that are designed to help you succeed academically. Examples include the Medical Scholars Program for pre-med/pre-health majors; academic enrichment projects funded by the National Science Foundation (Student Centered Active Learning and Assessment Reform and the Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance); and the Florida Information Technology Career (FITC) Alliance, which provides internship and job placement support for computer science and IT majors.
As a student in the College of Science and Technology, you will also have opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research projects with outstanding faculty in areas such as cancer therapy, materials science, drug design, software engineering, plasma science, laser spectroscopy, mathematical modeling and computational science. Moreover, the College of Science and Technology also operates several programs that will provide you with professional development and internship opportunities. We believe that one of the best ways to learn science and math is through active and hands-on learning.
Our goal is to help you find your passion, challenge your mind and push you beyond the limits of your current thinking. It would be my honor and pleasure to help guide you through your next stage of academic and professional development as a student at FAMU.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or if you need assistance with setting up a campus visit. I also invite you to visit our website (www.famu.edu/cst) for more information about the College of Science and Technology.
