The College Study Skills Institute (CSSI) is a summer transition/orientation program sponsored by the Center for Disability Access and Resources (CeDAR) that provides students with disabilities an opportunity to strengthen their social, technological, and study skills.
During this time, CeDAR staff, as well as other University officials, can interact with students on a more personal level and attendees have an opportunity to learn about FAMU and the city of Tallahassee. Attendance in CSSI may be mandatory for first-time and transfer students who are applying for special admissions to Florida A & M University.
During CSSI, student’s strengths and weaknesses are identified, information regarding their specific disability is presented, and reasonable accommodations are discussed. This program works to enhance their academic foundation levels for learning and success.
The CSSI staff believes that laying the proper foundation for learning and transitioning to a university environment is crucial to the retention and progression of the student for an enriching and successful educational experience. All CSSI attendees receive an academic evaluation report following the program. Participation in the CSSI program does not guarantee admission to the University.
