– Richard Dent, vice chair of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Board of Trustees, notified the Board of Governors (BOG), Friday that he has resigned his position as a FAMU BOT member effective immediately. In an email to Attorney Dean Colson, Chairman of the BOG, he wrote: “I have truly enjoyed my service of over 5 years and will continue to be available to the University and BOG whenever my time or resources are needed. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to serve the University that has contributed so much to my success. This past October, I assumed the role as CEO & President of Astor & Black Custom Clothiers, a private equity backed, direct to consumer, fashion brand. It is an amazing opportunity that will literally transform how fashion is delivered to men and women. After 10 years with Limitedbrands, six of those years as an executive with Victoria’s Secret, I am truly enjoying the opportunity to run and lead a business from the #1 seat. The past few months it has become clear that the demands of this new role will prevent me from giving the time and energy that FAMU needs from each and every BOT member, especially now. Thank you for your acceptance of this resignation. As a full time Florida resident (we are in the process of relocating the company to S. Florida), I look forward to continuing being active in the support of higher education in the state and in other capacities.”
