Certifications and Endorsements
Physical education professionals are employed in many industries, including education, health, recreation and fitness. Also, careers in the sports field, such as coaching or instructing and sports officiating, are predicted to grow substantially in the future. Therefore the HPER Department makes available the following certification program options for students who want to add marketable training that can enhance one’s career.
Certification in Physical Education (Grades K-12)
Plan One A bachelor's or higher degree with a teacher education major in physical education, or
Plan Two A bachelor's or higher degree with thirty (30) semester hours in physical education to include the areas specified below:
Twelve (12) semester hours in instructional design and content of physical education
PET 3230 Motor development
PET 4330 Kinesiology
PET 4401 Administration of Physical Education
PET 4351 Applied exercise physiology
PET 4640 Adaptive physical education or physical education for exceptional students
PET 2622 Care and prevention of human injuries
PEO 3004 Theory and practice in coaching.
