BS, Florida A&M University MM, Florida State University (with concentration in Choral Conducting)
Mark Butler, composer, conductor, pianist, baritone and music educator. He received a Masters degree in Music Education with concentration in Choral Conducting from Florida State University and an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Florida A&M University.
Butler recently served as Guest Conductor of the AASCA Music Festival in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He has also conducted choirs at Georgia Music Educator’s Association Conventions.
Under his directions, his choirs have won sixteen 1st place National Music Festivals and Sweepstake Awards. He received the Composer’s Award in recognition of his Compositions at the 12th Annual Southeastern African American College and University Choral Symposium Festival in Nassau, Bahamas.
As a published composer, his compositions have quickly grown to popular fame and are in performance demands at National and International music events such as the American Choral Director’s Association, Music Festivals, as well as live performances on PBS television and radio. Butler is also featured in the book “Way Over in Beulah Lan” (an explore and guide toUnderstanding & Performing the Negro Spiritual) Dr. Andre’ Thomas, author.
Butler was chosen as Who’s Who among American Teachers and Teacher of the Year at Dougherty Comprehensive High School, Albany, GA. He is a member of the American Choral Director’s Association, Music Educator’s National Conference, American Composer’s Forum and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Butler continues to serve as guest conductor for State and School District Choral Events, Church Workshops, and other Musical Events throughout the United States.
