Degree ProgramsFlorida A&M University Department of Music offers an impressive series of programs for undergraduate study, with the perfect combination of access to a diverse university setting and specialized music training. Our curricula combine tradition with innovation and are designed to offer students the flexibility to reach a variety of professional goals.
DEGREE PROGRAMS
The Department of Music has a primary role in the preparation of choral and instrumental musicians for elementary, secondary, and college teaching positions. The department is also responsible for the musical development of the professional performing artist and contributes to the aesthetic and cultural development of students from other disciplines.
Bachelor of Science in Music Education
The Bachelor of Science in Music Education is an intensive professional degree program preparing students to enter a career in music education or to enter graduate school for advanced study. Graduates of this program acquire the musical, pedagogical, and administrative skills needed to teach music in kindergarten through high school.
Bachelor of Arts in Music
The Bachelor of Arts is a degree which allows for more extensive study in general education and related fields. The Bachelor of Arts is the degree of choice for students who wish to emphasize music at the undergraduate level. Many students choose to combine music and another field (such as business) by electing the second field as a minor. Students are encouraged to pursue graduate study in one of the scholarly fields within music, such as music theory, music history, arts administration.
Bachelor of Science in Jazz Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Jazz Studies is for students interested in pursuing a professional career in jazz. The program is designed to develop students with high quality jazz performance artistry, while providing advanced historical, and theoretical knowledge of jazz music(s).
