The Pre-College component seeks to empower pre-college students to recognize their potential, maximize their opportunities, and utilize their acquired skills for the purpose of attaining a post-secondary degree. High-school and middle-school students will be exposed to experiences that enhance cross-cultural learning and strengthens critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills that will assist them in whatever direction they pursue in their future academic and professional careers. Four activities will be implemented under this component: (1) Global Security Pre-college Summer Institute; (2) Model United Nations Experience for Pre-college Students; (3) Pre-Scholars Leadership Academy and (4) a mentoring initiative.
IC faculty and representatives will assist the students to develop functional, quantitative, and qualitative skills. Participation in the pre-college institute exposes students to a variety of individuals working in federal agencies associated with U.S, domestic and international affairs.
PRE-SCHOLARS LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
The Pre-Scholars Leadership Academy is a partnership between area high schools, school boards and the CGSIA. The Leadership Academy provides a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum with a focus on critical thinking and writing, communication and leadership skills. Students will learn in a project-based environment where the core values of inquiry, writing, research, collaboration, presentation and reflection are emphasized in all aspects of the program. CGSIA will also facilitate mentoring relationships by bringing together promising high school students and dedicated IC scholars.
Students will participate in the Academy on a monthly basis throughout the school year and in the Global Security Pre-College Institute during the summer.
