Financial Aid

The University subscribes to the principal that the primary purpose of a financial assistance program is to provide aid to students who without such assistance would be unable to attend or remain in the University. Financial assistance is awarded according to individual need and University costs. The FAMU Office of Financial Aid administers monies available from Federal, State and University, and private sources in the form of scholarships, grants, employment, and loans.

To be awarded financial aid, applicants must (1) be citizens or permanent residents of the United States; (2) show financial need for need-based aid; (3) be at least half-time, degree-seeking students (4) maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Students may apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Student Aid Processor. Students who have attended other colleges and/or universities must submit a Financial Aid Transcript for every institution attended, whether aid was received there or not. The report from the Federal Student Aid Processor is called the Student Aid Report (SAR) and must be submitted to the Florida A&M University, Office of Financial Aid, Room 101 Foote-Hilyer Administration Center Tallahassee, Florida 32307-3200. All forms, including the completed SAR, should be received by the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible after January 1. The preferred due date is April 1 for the following Fall Term.
