MSISR (Minority Serving Institution Scholarship Reservation)

You should be submitting for a scholarship in the fall of your Senior year in high school.  If you wait until the spring, you risk that all scholarships will have been issued.

The MSISR (Minority Serving Institution Scholarship Reservation)  is identical to the National NROTC scholarship except that it is only available to students who plan to attend Florida A&M or one of the other Historically Black Colleges or Minority Serving Institutions with a Naval ROTC Program.

Any eligible male or female of any race or ethnic background may be awarded an MSISR Scholarship.

Application Deadline: 01 May, 2014, or when all available scholarships have been awarded, whichever occurs first.  All complete scholarship applications must be received by this date to allow for proper processing time prior to final deadline for Unit submission to Pensacola.

Incomplete applications will not be considered until all required forms, transcripts, and pictures have been received.  It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure completeness and accuracy of supplied information and that all required forms have been properly signed.

Note that Florida statute requires all students to have taken the ACT with Writing or SAT with Critical Writing.  Failure to have these scores on your ACT/SAT will result in you being denied enrollment regardless of scholarship status!

Note that scholarship requirements have changed.  SAT score of 500 Math and 500 English or ACT 21 Math and 20 English is required to qualify!!

BENEFITS

  • Full tuition and fees. "Fees" are any charge that is included on the tuition bill. A laptop PC would not be covered, even if it were required for the class, unless it showed up as an addition to the tuition.  All classes that must be repeated for a course failure or withdrawal will be the responsibility of the student, not the U.S. Navy.
  • FAMU provides the Presidential Room and Board Scholarships to selected NROTC students. This benefit is based on financial need, students must file a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) with the FAMU Financial Aid Department.  Any awarded amount will depend on the number of students already receiving aid, need of the student, and availability of the scholarship.  All students must be willing to accept responsibility for arranging payment should the scholarship not be available through personal means, other scholarships, grants, or loans.
  • NROTC uniforms and Naval Science books provided.
  • $250 monthly stipend for incoming freshman during spring and fall semesters. This stipend increases by $50 a year up to $400/month during the senior year.
  • $750 a year for books ($375 per semester).
  • Summer training pay is approximately $500 per cruise.
  • Hands on training while onboard operational submarines, aircraft carriers, surface ships, naval hospitals, SPECWAR units, SPECOPS units, and Marine Corps Units.
