Transformation of Embryogenic Cali from Supreme using VvMYB Gene

Muscadine Grapes are thick-skinned grapes which are native to the southeastern United States. The grapes are grown wild from Delaware to the Gulf of Mexico. Supreme is a variety of muscadine grape that has the distinguished characteristics of being black in color and very large. Previously developed embroygenic cali of the Supreme variety was used in the transformation. According to previous studies the globular stage of the embroygenic cali are the most efficient stage for transformation. Through the over expression of the flavoids through the use of VvMYB the antioxidant content will increase in the grape. Antioxidants act as "free radical scavengers" and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals and are beneficial for human health, as cardiovascular disease preventers. The best ways to get antioxidants is in food that you eat and a regular diet rich in antioxidants will help keeps the body healthy. They also slow some of the physical signs of aging by minimizing wrinkles and preserving skin's natural “glow”.
