University-related international travel remains suspended. We strongly urge all students, faculty and staff to reconsider plans for personal international travel.

University-related domestic travel follows traditional University processes.

Students, staff and faculty involved in Study Abroad programs should contact the Office of International Education and Development (OIED) at 850-599-3295 immediately for more information.

Continue to check the University's Coronavirus and Health Guidance websites for further updates as the environment evolves.

Domestic Travel Protocols

Individuals who are not vaccinated:

The University expects all faculty, staff and students who are not vaccinated to observe the following protocol:

  • Get tested 1-3 days before travel
  • Get tested 3-5 days after travel and self-quarantine for 7 days. Self-quarantine for 10 days if you do not get tested.
  • Self-monitor for symptoms
  • Wear a mask and take other precautions during travel.

Individuals who are fully vaccinated:

Individuals are considered fully vaccinated if:

  • It has been two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series for vaccines like Pfizer or Moderna; OR

Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to observe the testing protocol above, but should wear facial coverings and take other precautions during travel.

General Information

Information for persons monitoring for COVID-19:

This information is to help you closely monitor your health because you may have been exposed to coronavirus.  This does NOT mean that you will get sick with coronavirus.  It is very important for you to monitor your health so that you can quickly receive care and treatment if you do get sick.

What are the signs and symptoms of coronavirus?

The most common symptoms of coronavirus are fever and cough.  Some people also report difficulty breathing, more rarely sore throat, muscle aches and abdominal discomfort. These symptoms can also be due to many other illnesses.  If you develop a fever or any symptoms, it does not mean you have coronavirus. Remember that many people never develop obvious symptoms but can still transmit the virus.

How should you monitor your health during this time?
You will be asked to screen your symptoms using the FAMU mobile app or the screening log available in this section to record your temperature and possible symptoms.  Record this information twice each day.

Practice protective and careful measures during this time

  • You should avoid contact with others to reduce the risk of secondary transmission.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing
  • Wash your hands often using soap and water or a hand sanitizer that is 60% - 95% alcohol
  • Wear a mask when you are around other people, pets and when you enter a healthcare providers office
  • Do not travel or use public transportation

What to do if you become ill during this monitoring period?

Call your health care provider, clinic, hospital or emergency room first.  If your symptoms are mild, it is possibly that you may be able to remain at home.  Be sure you let your healthcare provider know that you recently traveled or are in a household with a person that has recently traveled.

  • The Florida Department of Health has established an information line at: 866-779-6121.  You are encouraged to contact them 24/7 for your questions.
  • If you feel your symptoms are serious and you need immediate medical attention (shortness of breath, temperature over 102, chest pain, etc. call 9-1-1, and explain that you are being monitored for potential exposure to coronavirus and need emergency medical attention.

How does this self-quarantine impact the following:

  • Classes, on campus Housing and Dining - contact Tanya Tatum, Director of Student Health Services at tanya.tatum@famu.edu or 850-212-2977 for assistance
  • Work - contact your supervisor
  • Campus Involvement - you should limit your interactions with others as much as possible
  • Roommates - you should isolate in a private area with a separate bathroom, if possible

What resources can I access if I need to talk to someone?

  • The FAMU Office of Counseling Services (850-599-3145)
  • Students may also call WellConnect at 833-848-1765 for phone or online support
  • Employees may access support through Resources for Living at 1-800-272-7252

Do I need to do any of the following:

  • Wear a mask - you only need to wear a mask if you are having symptoms (coughing, fever, shortness of breath)
  • Disinfect my home - you should clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily

Where can I get more information?
