TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Oghenekome “Kome” U. Onokpise, associate dean for Academic Programs in Florida A&M University's College of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture (CESTA), is the recipient of the Stephen Spurr Award for technical contributions to forestry in Florida. The award was presented by the Florida Division of the Society of American Foresters (SAF) at the SFRC Spring Symposium held in Gainesville, Fla. Onokpise has been a member of the SAF since 1982.
The Society of American Foresters is the national scientific and educational organization representing the forestry profession in the United States. Founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot, it is the largest professional society for foresters in the world.
