For the first time, Florida A&M University Developmental Research School (FAMU-DRS) is offering scholarships to students that have displayed excellence academically in conduct and in the FCAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT or Stanford 10 Test.
“This is important initiative because it is inline with FAMU-DRS becoming an exemplary school, a national school of excellence and recruitment and retention of students,” said FAMU-DRS superintendent Ronald Holmes. “It is a new day at [FAMU] DRS. We are looking to increase enrollment and financially support our academic and athletic programs, as well as improving our curriculum, offering advanced placement and honors courses and providing opportunity to place FAMU-DRS students in dual enrollment.”
As a part of the vision for FAMU-DRS, Holmes and the administration have been actively working to increase the enrollment. To facilitate this initiative, FAMU-DRS is offering scholarships of up to $1,000 to students.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must meet one of the following criteria:
• A score of four or higher on the FCAT
• A score of 97 or higher on the Reading/Mathematics portions of the PSAT
• Score of 970 or higher on the Reading/Mathematics portions of the SAT
• Score of 20 or higher on the ACT
• Performance above grade level in all subject areas on the Stanford Achievement Test (Stanford 10)
The scholarship will go towards tuition and fees for the 2008 fall semester, $250, and the remaining amount, $750, will be issued to the student in the 2009 spring semester. This amount can be used for the student's books, supplies, materials, school uniforms, dues, etc.
Interested students who would like to be considered for a scholarship must complete an admissions application and return all required documents to the main office at FAMU-DRS. Scholarships will be awarded based on the availability of classroom space for grades K - 12 and overall enrollment.
