MARCHING ‘100’ HOSTS ITS ANNUAL BAND CAMP PARADE
TALLAHASSEE – The Florida A&M University Marching ‘100’ isn’t only known for its high-stepping, electrifying, crowd-pleasing sounds and moves. The ‘100’ also lends its talent to hundreds of the nation’s high school band students at its annual Summer Band Camp. For the past week, band campers have been on campus mastering and emulating the style and concepts of the world-renowned Marching ‘100’ – now it’s time to showcase the fruits of their labor.
The Marching ‘100’ hosts its 18th Annual Summer Band Camp Parade today at 1 p.m. The parade is the first opportunity for campers to display their new skills and moves to the Tallahassee community.
“Band campers are more excited than ever to have the opportunity to showcase the skills they have been working on this week,” said Clarence L. Sirmons, a third year architecture major from Boynton Beach, Fla., and parade coordinator. “The parade promises to be exciting.”
President James H. Ammons, the parade’s grand marshal, will lead this year’s parade, which will consist of both campus and community organizations.
The parade route, which has changed from previous years, will begin at Bragg Memorial Stadium travel south on Wahnish Way, make a left on Osceola Street, then turn left on MLK Jr. Blvd., and end on “The Set” at the viewing stand.
Band participants will continue to showcase their new skills at events through the end of the week. The Super Summer-Fest Finale Performance, scheduled for Saturday, July 14, at 10 a.m. in Bragg Stadium, is the culminating event.
