Lewis Appointed to National Research Advisory Council
TALLAHASSEE – U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt has appointed Dr. Henry Lewis III, professor of Pharmacy Practice, in the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, to the National Advisory Research Resources Council (NARRC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the period 2007-2011. The NARRC makes final recommendations to the director on research and training grants, research and animal facilities, translation research and research equipment funding totaling $1.2 billion per year. The National Center for Research Resources has provided over $50 Million in research funding, including a new research laboratory wing, to the COPPS since 1985.
“I am indeed honored by the Secretary’s appointment to this prestigious Council,” Lewis. “To have the opportunity to participate in the development of national research policy and direction that will improve the health of our nation is a very important assignment. I hope to bring additional focus onto health disparities research and how we can enhance the quality of lives for all Americans.”
