African American
The African American Collection is located in Special Collections, room 403, Coleman Library. The Collection started in the late 1920's. The majority of the collection was acquired in the 1960's and 1970's. Over 20,000 titles by and about African Americans make up the collection. The collection is comprised of books, pictures, newspapers, periodicals, and Florida A&M University theses. A microform reproduction of the New York Public Library's Schomburg Collection of Negro Literature and History, one of the most important resources in the world for the study of African American people, is also included in the African American Collection. To further enhance the library as a learning environment sculptures and paintings comprise a collection of art resources that are displayed in the library's art gallery and other strategic locations. This includes the Scholar, a welded steel 20'x10'6"x9' sculpture located in the court yard at the rear of the Library.

Emily Copeland
The Emily A. Copeland Collection, also a part of Special Collections, is a collection of African American materials in various formats, named for the late Dean of the School of Library Service at FAMU.

The Famuana Collection, also located in Special Collections, room 403, is a collection of newspaper clippings, journal articles, pamphlets, etc. by and about FAMU alumni and employees.

A collection of works about Florida, its people, and Florida authors. The Florida Collection is located in Special Collections, room 403, Coleman Library.

Government Documents
Most of the collection is located on the second floor of the Coleman Library Annex. The microforms, electronic media, and maps are located in room 207. The Libraries is a selective depository for U. S. Government publications.

Micro Media
The Micro Media collection houses microfilm and microfiche materials. The arrangement is categorically, alphabetically, and numerically. Sources are historical as well as current. Coverage extends from the early 1800's through this century. The Micro Media Department is located on the second floor of Coleman Library, room 207. Contact Micro Media  

Located on the third floor lobby, the newspaper collection consists of local, state, and regional papers from selected major cities. Selected African American newspapers are located in special collections, Room 403. The library also subcribes to electronic newspapers.  

Online Resources
The FAMU libraries' online resources include books, journals, newspapers, full text articles, reports and reference information. Access to the libraries' online resources can be gained through the libraries' home page.  

The Oversized or Folio Collection is located in Special Collections, room 403, Coleman Library.

The Publication of Archival, Library and Museum Materials, PALMM Collections are digital library collections, including images and full text, of important source research materials. PALMM is a cooperative effort of the State University Libraries of Florida. more...

Periodicals are located in Room 303 and 313 of the Samuel H. Coleman Library. The collection is comprised of approximately 98,538 bound volumes arranged alphabetically by title on open shelves. Current issues of "frequently used periodicals" are kept on reserve behind the Periodicals Service Desk.

The reference collection include almanacs, atlases, dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, handbooks, maps, etc. The reference collection is located at the rear of the second floor.
