The Cataloging Department is a division of the Technical Services Department.
The primary function of the Cataloging Department is bibliographic control
of all print and non-print materials acquired by the University libraries.
The main emphasis is placed on the classification and subject analysis
of library materials in all formats. These materials include monographs,
serials, microfiche, microfilm, CD-ROM, and videos, which are processed
by using copy cataloging or original cataloging methods.
The department
is also responsible for downloading, editing and updating bibliographic
records, maintaining online authority files, adding copies and volumes
to the holdings record, and the preparing of materials for circulation
by affixing book pockets and spine labels to cataloged materials. The downloading
of records into the ALEPH database is performed by using OCLC Connexion
interface program.
Policies
The Cataloging Section will rush catalog materials that are currently being held in the Acquisitions Section. If you need a book or any other materials right away, please visit the Reference or Circulation desk with your request. Turn around time for rushed materials is 24 hours.
