The Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW) Curriculum
The BSW social work curriculum does not formally begin until the student's junior year because it is considered an upper-division professional program. However, students need to begin taking the required liberal arts courses for the major in their freshman year, as pre-social work majors. These prerequisites compliment the general studies courses required for any degree from Florida A&M University. Social Work majors are required to complete 60 hours of general studies and social work prerequisite courses and 61hours of upper-division professional foundation courses for a total of 120 hours. The 60 upper-division credit hours of coursework are taken in the junior and senior years in a four-semester sequential order. These hours include 14 required social work courses (42 credit hours), two social work special area courses (6 credit hours), and a Field Practicum (12 credit hours) for a total of 60 hours.
