SBI Virtual Camp

The School of Business and Industry (SBI) is hosting its 2012 Virtual Summer Camp Series.  This creative online experience allows students across the nation to learn concepts and theories within the business world and apply those concepts to everyday life.  As a result, students will enhance their critical thinking skills, improve their competitive advantage, increase scholarship opportunities, and gain the necessary life skills to excel in college.

Computer and internet access are required

Camp Summaries

FUNDAMENTALS OF ECONOMICS (Dr. Clyde Ashley) - $199
This virtual summer enrichment camp is designed to educate high school students (9th through 12th grades) on the basics of economics with a focus on application and principles in practical scenarios and everyday activities. This 4-week online training equips students with the tools and skills to gain a competitive advantage and helps provide the foundation for effective living, both personally and professionally. Subjects include: basic economics concepts, applications, and principles; budgeting for success; and wealth building. Requirements: A computer and internet access.
This camp comprises five lessons.  Participants can complete the lessons at their own pace; therefore, the camp can be from one to four weeks, depending on the time and effort to complete the assignments.

Students may register before or after July 9th.  Overview >


PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (Dr. Clyde Ashley) - $199
This virtual summer enrichment camp is designed to educate high school students (9th through 12th grades), teachers, administrators, and professionals on professional leadership development. This 4-week online training enhances participants’ soft skills and improves their competitive advantage. Subjects include: written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills; presentation skills; PowerPoint skills; interviewing skills; time management skills; team and group building skills; ethics; research skills; visionary leadership skills; and management skills. Requirements: A computer and internet access.

The Professional Leadership Development camp comprises 10 lessons.  Participants can complete the lessons at their own pace; therefore, the camp can be from one to four weeks, depending on the time and effort to complete the assignments.

FUTURE MONEY MASTERS (Dr. Derek Holloman) - $180
The Future Money Masters (FMM) is a virtual 4-week summer enrichment program designed to enrich high school students (9th through 12th grades) with an understanding of financial literacy through basic concepts and theories within the business world. This Level 1 Junior Analyst program engages students with a thorough introduction to financial literacy through online lectures. The program also features a real-time virtual simulation in which students will compete against each other in order to obtain optimum wealth by using the financial techniques previously lectured. Topics of interest include budgeting, the time value of money, investments, and money management. Students will obtain a FMM Level 1 Certificate of Completion upon passing the exam, which will grant them eligibility to the Summer 2013 Level 2 Senior Analyst program that further challenges students with more in-depth concepts and theories within the finance discipline. Requirements: A computer and internet access.

LEADERS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE (Dr. Jennifer Collins) - $249
This 4-week online training is designed to help students learn to think critically and creatively about current social issues.  Students will be empowered with the knowledge, skills, and perspective for being socially responsible leaders. 
This camp helps students develop communication skills, build confidence, and make ethical decisions. The weekly sessions are active and engaging and teach students real-world tools for success as a social change agent.  By the end of the program, students will have a better understanding of their personal leadership style and have stronger public speaking and writing skills.

FINANCIAL “COLLEGE PREP 101” (Dr. Michael Campbell) - $100
This 4-week online training is designed to educate students on effectively financing their college career; dealing with debt; banking, insurance, and investing; what they need and don't need while in college; and renting housing.

The SBI Virtual Summer Camps are online programs.  You must possess a computer and internet access.  Minimum requirements are listed below.
