Admissions Requirements

Freshmen Applicants:

A first-time-in-college (FTIC) applicant is required to possess a diploma from an accredited high school with certain high school academic units, a cumulative high school grade point average in those academic units, and ACT or SAT-I (critical reading & math components only) test scores. FAMU does not accept students who receive a Certificates of completion. Satisfying minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to limited access programs.

What is a transfer applicant?
Any student who has earned at least 12 semester hours of college credit following graduation from high school is considered a transfer applicant.
A transfer applicant with less than 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college work are considered lower-level transfers must also meet the first time in college requirements in accordance with Florida Board of Education Admission Rules, and should have a minimum 2.0 grade point average in all college work and be in good academic standing at the last institution attended.

A transfer applicant with less than 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college work must meet all freshman and transfer requirements. They must submit:

• A non-refundable $25.00 application fee.
• Official high school transcript (Speede Code: 730000000148000).
• Official transcript from each college or university attended (current up to time of application).
• Completers of high school by GED must provide an official copy of test scores (as well as a partial high school transcript).
• Official SAT-I or ACT score

• All applicants who do not meet the foreign language requirement must complete two semesters (or equivalent) before graduation at FAMU.

A transfer applicant with more than 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college work or have earned a Associate in Arts degree from a Florida community College must have at least 2.0 grade point average. If an applicant has attended more than one institution, the cumulative grade point average from all institutions must be at least 2.0. An applicant must also be in good academic standing at the last institution attended. Meeting minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission to limited access programs.

Limited Access Program:
Any prospective student interested in applying for a limited access program may need to fill out an additional application through the department. Admittance to these programs is competitive. Students who wish to be considered must meet or exceed the minimum eligibility criteria as established by the department. For additional information please contact the appropriate departments.

School of Journalism & Graphic Communications (Journalism)
School of Nursing (Nursing)
College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Science (Pharmacy-Undergraduate, Pharmacy Professional)

Transfer applicants with an A.A. degree from a Florida community college or state university in Florida in an approved general education program are eligible for admission to non-limited access programs and shall receive priority admission over out-of-state applicants.

Degrees earned at institutions other than Florida community colleges will be evaluated on a course by course basis.
FAMU accepts transfer credit from institutions that are regionally accredited at the time the credits are earned.
Profile Assessment admission standards do not apply.
All applicants who do not meet the foreign language requirement must complete two semesters (or equivalent) before graduation at FAMU.
Applicants who enroll with the Associate of Science degree must complete the general education requirements prior to admission to upper division status.
All students transferring are required to earn at least 30 semester hours in residency in order to meet graduation requirements for the baccalaureate degree.



Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. This means that decisions are made after receipt of all supporting documentation. Once a decision is made, you will be notified via postal mail.
